Using IT strategically: The circular economy as a sustainable model for success
"Whereas most IT assets lose their value far too quickly in a linear business model, a circular approach retains value for much longer," explains Allard Pheifer, Group Lead, Sustainability at CHG-MERIDIAN. "Through professional refurbishing and remarketing of assets, combined with a business model that gives customers seamless access to the circular economy, we help organizations keep technology in productive use - and out of the waste stream - for as long as possible."
Using IT strategically: The circular economy as a sustainable model for success
A clearly defined process at the end of the lease term sees assets returned, checked in accordance with global standards, and given a second lifecycle. In 2025, 96 percent of all IT returns were remarketed, while 4 percent underwent a professional recycling process.
At the end of the first use phase, we take back the IT lease returns from our customers.
CHG-MERIDIAN operates two proprietary technology centers in Gross-Gerau (Germany) and Skien (Norway). We also work with end-of-lease service partners around the world and send them assets for further processing.
Assets undergo a standardized end-of-lease process at our technology centers and global service partners. These partners must adhere to the CHG-MERIDIAN standards and are audited by us at regular intervals.
Our certified eraSURE® process guarantees the secure erasure of sensitive data before assets are used again. Non-reusable assets or those containing sensitive data are professionally recycled by our partners, and valuable resources are returned to the material cycle.
Checked assets are prepared for a second lifecycle. Remarketing customers have to pass a rigorous identity check and must not be included on any sanctions list. Assets given a second lifecycle through remarketing are subject to order-specific export controls in line with local legislation.
