“During my training I am spending most of my time in the IT department. But I also get to work in other departments, such as global people development, financial accounting, and contract management, in order to learn about and understand the business processes at CHG-MERIDIAN. In all the departments everyone helps each other out and works very closely together. To boost the team spirit, there are a lot of communal activities, such as having lunch as a team in the company cafeteria. There are also group events, like the outing for apprentices and students, or departmental excursions with joint activities that foster cohesion and help people to get to know each other better. And the global people development department offers seminars, courses, and other training options to ensure that employees never stop learning. Every three months there is a presentation session for the apprentices and students. This consists of two apprentices giving a talk they have prepared, as practice for their final exams. The group also works through and discusses issues that are relevant to the company, or current topics from the wider economy.”
MARCO ECKEL | Apprentice computer science expert (software developer) at the site in Weingarten
“Each apprentice at CHG-MERIDIAN is assigned a mentor from a previous intake. This means that right from the start you have a fixed contact who will lend a hand if you have any questions or problems. That is a great feeling, and boosts the sense of belonging to the team. But it isn’t just the mentors who are available when apprentices have questions – our other colleagues are also always ready to help out. We call this the ‘open door principle’.
If you are committed and hard-working, you are almost guaranteed to be offered a permanent position at CHG-MERIDIAN, because the company is keen on hiring from within its ranks. Your own requests are also taken into consideration. It is a good idea to make as many internal contacts as possible during your training. CHG-MERIDIAN makes this easy, because you get to work in a range of different departments. The support from experts with specialist knowledge is useful for all sorts of decisions and problems in day-to-day work.
After completing my industrial clerk apprenticeship with an additional qualification in international business management, CHG-MERIDIAN offered me the opportunity to do a degree apprenticeship in international business.”
MARLEN MOOSMANN | Degree apprentice in international business, formerly a trainee as industrial management assistant at the site in Weingarten
